B52's escape with nail-biting victory

There were a few nervous moments for B52’s in their Geraldton Water Polo Association men’s A-grade match with the Country Week side on Friday.

B52’s started the better and led 5-3 at half time but their opposition rallied in the second half.

They narrowed the gap and had opportunities to level the scores, only to finish one goal adrift of the ladder leaders at the final hooter.

Daniel Prout and Ray Godenzie each netted three for the winners while Josh Bentley bagged three and Nick Adam two for the CW side.

Votes went to Bentley, Godenzie, Adam and Prout.

The Rats women’s A-grade team celebrated their first win for the season against an undermanned Demons outfit.

Both teams struggled to field a competitive line-up, but Rats emerged 2-1 victors.

Referee votes went to Mel McVee, Caris Gordon, Rachel McRae, Claire Johnson and Tammy O’Malley.

A full strength Serpents side made easy work of the undermanned B52’s outfit with a 9-4 win.

Karly Collett netted four with Narelle Cocking and Coraleigh Abrams chiming in with three and two respectively while Emma Hancox scored three for B52’s.

Referee votes went to Cocking, Collett, Hancox and Tegan Knight.

The remaining men’s game resulted in an unfortunate forfeit by Rats to Demons.

Results from the lower grades were, men’s B-grade, B52’s defeated Rats 12-3 with Graham Marsden, Adam Westbrook, Darren McCagh, Rod Baker, Andy Bartolo and Neville Ridge as best players.

Relics defeated B52’s Development 6-4 with Steve Lawley, Ashley Sojan, Liam Follington and Mick Mulligan as best players.

Women’s B-grade, B52’s defeated Rats 3-2 with Sophie Ullrich, Kelsey Houwen, Emma Hancox, Elle Ayling and Marnie Bell as best players.

Serpents defeated Relics 7-2 with Bianca O’Malley, Michelle Prout, Coraleigh Abrams and Anouska Barnes.

Women’s C-grade, Serpents Blue defeated Demons 7-2 with Brooke Little, Anita Krippner, Daphne Petersen and Erin Thompson as best players.

Relics defeated Rats 3-2 with Quinn McVee, Patti Rock, Kelly Crocus, Nicole Riley and Casey Wiffen as best players.

Serpents Green defeated B52’s 4-2 with Emily Murphy, Sophie Coffin, Tenielle Hawke, Tiahni Rowcroft and Nerene Teakle as best players.
