Shivers ran down Trevor Grose’s spine as three youths smashed their way into his home and began a vicious attack on his life.

Just after midnight on Thursday, Trevor and his wife Karen were woken by a knock on the front door of their Glenfield home.

Mrs Grose opened the door and was faced with three dark-skinned young men she did not know.

She said they were aggressive and so she slammed the door.

Alerting her husband, the youths forced entry into the house by kicking the door open.

Mrs Grose fled to the backyard and called the police.

“From hearing Karen scream and them coming in, it sent shivers down my spine,” Mr Grose said.

“I went, ‘Holy s**t, something is going on’.

Karen came running through the bedroom door, grabbing the phone on the way through.”

Mr Grose recalled the chilling moment when he was confronted initially by two of the youths with hoods over their heads.

“I produced a club and told them to get the f**k out of my house.

The guy started screaming, ‘What the hell are you playing at?’

Then a third guy appeared with a beer bottle and hit me in the face above the eye.

“When I recoiled from that, they ran over and grabbed a coffee jar with preserved lemon and salt.

“He threw that in my face and hit me in the eye socket, causing fractures.

“I was millimetres from losing my whole eye, it’s very sore, I’ve got facial and nerve damage, I’m very lucky,” he said.

Bloodied and dazed, Mr Grose retreated to the bedroom but was chased by the youths.

“They came pushing and coming through the door.

“I started backtracking to get out the same way my wife had left. I heard drawers being pulled out and smashed onto the floor.

After being hit with a bar stool, Mr Grose said he held the back door to the bedroom as the youths gave chase and made his way out the back of the house.

He said they were determined to cause violence and fear.

“From what I could see they had no fear. They were there to do violence. They didn’t care how the home invasion was happening, they kept screaming ‘Where is the money? Where is the money?’

“It looked like they were off their heads on drugs or something like that. I felt lucky to get away with the injuries I have got.

“There were three guys in the house. There was a fourth one in the car. They might have had a police scanner.”

Mr Grose said he would have to get counselling and would have to travel to Perth for specialist treatment on his eye.

Geraldton police said detectives were continuing investigations into the incident.
