Debate over a restructure of PCYC has ignited among election candidates after figures revealed Geraldton has the worst juvenile crime rate in WA.
A State Government report has proposed for PCYCs to have a primary focus on prolific priority offenders, or PPOs, through a police youth liaison officer.
Figures in the report suggest the Geraldton centre could need the greatest attention in WA, with calls from the election candidates for it to be deemed a priority.
A total of 2366 juvenile offenders in Geraldton were processed between 2009 and 2012 — the highest of the 22 districts in the report.
Bunbury was second with 1504 offenders.
