The City of Greater Geraldton says the State Government needs to do more to promote tourism despite the city’s strong hotel occupancy rate.September 2012 figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics showed Geraldton’s hotel occupancy rate was the highest in regional WA, and second highest in the state behind Perth.
Geraldton’s occupancy rate was 84 per cent, behind Perth (86 per cent), while tourist hotspots Broome and Margaret River recorded 79 per cent and 54 per cent respectively.
City spokesperson Sue Chiera echoed comments by Tourism WA chief executive Evan Hall that more could be done to boost tourism in Geraldton.Full story in today's print edition.
