Moving house has become routine for the Sunshine Festival, but the celebration of everything that is Geraldton is celebrating what is hoped to be its final move.

Committee members gathered last Friday for the handover of keys to their new home, with Geraldton Visitor Centre in the historic Bill Sewell Centre.

In recent years the event headquarters has been in Chapman Way Arcade, which is now vacant awaiting redevelopment, and then in short-term premises provided by Regional Development Australia.

That temporary accommodation became 21 months, with no solution in sight until Visitor Centre manager Ron Hayward came to the rescue.

His suggestion that the festival be provided with rent-free space was happily endorsed by the City of Greater Geraldton, and it was a delighted chairperson Yvonne Marsden who accepted the key from Mr Hayward on Friday.
