A funding announcement to develop low-cost housing between Wandina and Karloo has exposed a sharp difference in thinking between the sitting Member for Geraldton, Liberal MP Ian Blayney, and National Party candidate Shane Van Styn.

The Building Better Regional Cities Karloo Wandina Project, championed by the Nationals, will allocate $28 million in funding towards the development, which will open up 400 low-cost housing lots for sale at about $100 000, on top of 1400 other lots.

Geraldton Nationals candidate and City Councillor, Shane Van Styn, said the project was one of his fi ve ‘wish-list’ projects for Geraldton.

Mr Van Styn said the provision of cheap housing was a top priority for Geraldton residents, one this project would cater for.

“Affordable housing is the biggest issue that is raised with me by people my age and under,” he said.
