Kalbarri police have vowed to put the brakes on rogue off-road bike riders.

Officers in the Mid West town have followed the lead taken by Geraldton police and council rangers to impound unregistered vehicles being driven on public property.

Police say riders of unregistered off-road bikes had ignored warnings and “were taking liberties” by undermining public safety by riding on pavements, verges and public roads.

The issue even prompted police officers to hold education sessions with local school children on off-road vehicle use.

But Kalbarri police officer-in-charge Sgt Matt Froude said efforts to educate riders had been ignored.
