The fate of unrestricted seven-day trading in Geraldton now lies in the hands of the Council after councillor Ron Ashplant filed a motion for deregulated trading this week.
The motion is calling for total deregulation, which would effectively enable all retailers to trade 24 hours, seven days a week if they chose to.
It will be put to the City councillors for a majority vote at the Ordinary Meeting on December 18.
If successful the proposal will go out for a public consultation period of 42 days.
It will then come back before the Council in March for consideration before it is submitted to the Commerce Minister for approval.Full story in today's print edition.
