Two female police officers have received hospital treatment after they were allegedly attacked by a man in Geraldton.

Police allege the 24-year-old man tried to grab a taser from one of the officers after it was unsuccessfully deployed during the incident about 6pm last night.

Sgt Grant Rosman said the female officers approached the male person of interest on Lester Avenue and he allegedly ran away.

He said the male was located a short distance away and became aggressive.

“Police unsuccessfully deployed their taser on the male,” he said. “The male person attacked the police and attempted to take the taser from one officer.

“Both officers were punched several times to the head during the struggle.”

He said other officers arrived and arrested the man and the injured officers were treated at Geraldton Regional Hospital for facial bruising and swelling. Detectives are investigating the incident.
