An environmentally efficient building material is slowly gaining popularity in the Mid West.
Perth-based building material companies Iron Design Cladding and Polytech Cladding have started supplying the innovative Masterwall Polystyrene cladding to Geraldton.
Polytech Cladding director Marcus Singline visited Geraldton recently with Iron Design’s Dwayne Bourne to apply Masterwall to a building project in Stowe St.
Masterwall is a complete external insulation system for projects seeking a high architectural finish and a high environmental rating.
Houses using Masterwall increase the thermal rating more than five times from a standard R0.6 to R3.1.
Mr Singline said the walls could be put up extremely quickly, finishing the job in Stowe St in less than six hours.
He said the system used a whole of the envelope approach that was far superior to other building materials.
“If you are using gyprock, cladding or brickwork you are not going to get the same environmental result.” he said.
“Also with this material, if there is damage to the wall it is isolated, you won’t get entire broken panels,” he said.
Mr Singline said he and associate Mr Bourne visited houses they had fitted with Masterwall in the height of summer and had been surprised at how cooling the effect was.
The insulation system is applied then rendered over the top with a final treatment of paint or external surface material.
It can also be installed between a commercial carpark and tenanted floors above, or between an underground carpark and occupied areas of a house or high density residential development.Mr Singline said the company had received a “good deal of interest from the Geraldton market”.
