Carnarvon police are concerned insurance companies will not cover the cost of raided and stolen vehicles because they were unlocked.
Police are investigating an incident last week when a LandCruiser valued at $15,000 was allegedly taken from Brockman then driven to Harbour Road before being rolled.
The vehicle’s keys were left in the ignition.
Other unlocked vehicles were broken into.
Detective-Senior Sergeant Mitch Howard said arrests had been made and three male youths and one 19-year-old were charged with stealing a motor vehicle, stealing property and traffic offences. They appeared in Carnarvon’s Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday where one was remanded and the rest were released on bail. Police have reminded people to be more vigilant.
“If you don’t want to be the next victim of crime in Carnarvon then don’t leave your houses unlocked and the keys in the ignition of your vehicles,” Det-Sen. Sgt Howard said.
“Not only will you become the next victim, your insurance company will not pay out on your contents and vehicles if they are not locked and the keys properly secured.'The West Australian' is a trademark of West Australian Newspapers Limited 2012.
