Gareth Parker is something of an oddity in the mainstream media in that he was a blogger before he was a reporter. After running a moderately-read current affairs blog between 2001 and 2003 (virtually the hot metal typesetting era for the Australian blogosphere) while studying journalism at Curtin University, Gareth won a cadetship at The West Australian in 2004.
Since then, he was local government reporter for two years and most recently held the job of Melbourne correspondent, covering stories including gangland killings, the Black Saturday bushfires, Australia's largest terrorism trial and the AFL finals.
Now, as deputy editor of thewest.com.au, Gareth will take you "Behind The West" and into the newsroom.
