No one said being a judge at horse racing was an easy job but in a two-horse race?
Racing Victoria stewards took an unprecedented decision to sack a judge from officiating at the Mansfield picnic meeting on Saturday after he posted the wrong result in a two-horse race.
Racenet website reported that RV steward Peter Ryan, who was at the meeting, stood down judge Shaun Quin after he declared Vixenite, the $1.24 favourite, the winner of the Mal Ryan and Glen Trophy (1100m) by a nose over The Blue Angel.
After correct weight was declared, the photo-finish operator approached the stewards regarding the declared result.
After viewing the photo-finish image, stewards realised a mistake had been made. The Blue Angel actually won. So Ryan immediately removed Quin and appointed another steward to act as judge for the remaining three races.
It was not clear why the mistake was made.
