An American man was so desperate for a night out with mates and away from his wife that he faked his abduction so he could go out drinking.
His mates were in on the scam - they pretended to be gun-toting kidnappers - snatching Texan Rogelio Andaverde from his home in front of his terrified wife.
She rang police after he was dragged away.
Police spent hours looking for Mr Andaverde.
It was not until he appeared the next morning and told police that his kidnappers had simply let him go that his ridiculous scam began to unravel.
Mr Andaverde's wife spent more than five hours with police being interviewed, according to local news reports
"We took this incident very serious because of the circumstances described to us by the wife," Sheriff Trevino told KTVI news.
"People don't just barge into your house and kidnap you for the hell of it."
He said Mr Andaverde confessed that he wanted to go out "partying with friends".
"I don't think his wife appreciated being kept until 4 or 5 in the morning, being interviewed by the cops while her husband was out doing who knows what with who knows who."
Mr Andaverde was charged with making a false report to police.
