A man has drowned off a popular beach on Sydney's north shore.
Emergency services were called to Avalon beach about 5.45pm on Thursday after a man fell in the water.
The Seven Network reported the man had been fishing when he was washed off the rocks.
An ambulance helicopter and surf life savers went to the man's aid but he died at the scene.
Two people, who were also on the rocks, jumped in the water after spotting the fisherman floating, a Surf Life Saving NSW spokeswoman said.
A rescue jet ski then picked the good samaritans up and dropped them on the shore, she told AAP.
It is unclear whether the pair knew the fishermen.
