Billionaire trucking magnate Lindsay Fox's bid to claim an extra 45 metres of prime beachfront land is a bit rich, because beaches should be for everyone, Victorian Premier Denis Napthine says.
Victoria's land titles office extended Mr Fox's Portsea property boundary to include an extra 45 metres of prime beach land, worth $5 million, on Christmas Eve, Fairfax Media reports.
Dr Napthine said some of his ministers had already expressed concern about the decision and would examine the issue and take action if required to do so.
He said the decision to grant the land related to a technical matter about where the waterline is.
"I think it is a bit rich for people to seek to claim beaches," he told reporters.
"Beaches are traditionally in Victoria open space for people to go on and that's the tradition in Victoria, that's the tradition in Australia.
"These are in this particular case very technical legal issues about property title and how you define when a title is written as to the waterline."
