A Melbourne man who killed his friend in a drunken car crash has been jailed for six years.
Eric Kahotea Brown, 29, of Broadmeadows, was drunk and travelling 30km/h over the speed limit when he collided with another car, a tree and then a traffic pole in East Melbourne in December 2012.
His passenger, 30-year-old Yogesh Satish Bute, died at the scene.
Brown, who pleaded guilty to culpable driving causing death, was on Tuesday sentenced to six years in jail with a non-parole period of three and a half years.
Victorian County Court Judge Gavan Meredith said Brown's blood alcohol concentration was around three times the legal limit at the time of the crash.
He said causing the death of his friend would affect Brown for the rest of his life.
"You are racked with guilt as a result of your offending," Judge Meredith said.
