A man may lose some fingers from one hand after what police believe was a violent road-rage incident on the Gold Coast.
A group of six men, possibly tradesmen, were involved in a bloody brawl on Lakeview Boulevard, Broadbeach Waters, on Tuesday afternoon with one of the men suffering a deep cut to a hand.
The man was one of three involved to present himself to Robina Hospital after the incident, and while police say he's unlikely to lose his hand it looks as though "a couple" of fingers will be lost.
None of the three injured men has lodged a complaint or will co-operate with police, but an investigation is underway despite their silence with affray charges likely to be laid.
"Unacceptable behaviour, and that's why, regardless of whether these men want to make a complaint about each other and the event, we certainly will be proceeding with it," acting chief superintendent Des Lacy told reporters on Wednesday.
He said that sort of behaviour was alarming to the community and "there has to be an example made of that".
Supt Lacy said police had taken several witness statements but none was able to elaborate on the build-up to the incident.
He said there had been claims a machete and possibly either a tomahawk or hammer had been used in the fight.
All six men involved are believed to be in their 20s, with Mr Lacy saying at least two of the victims come from NSW's Central Coast region.
He said it's hoped CCTV footage will shed more light on the incident as well as helping to identify the three other men involved.
