A man behind the wheel of a ute being chased by Sydney highway patrol officers crashed into another vehicle, injuring its driver and himself, police say.
Officers tried to stop the man after he was allegedly caught speeding down a main road at Hoxton Park, in the city's southwest, late on Wednesday night.
"The driver of the ute failed to stop when directed to by police and a pursuit was initiated," police said in a statement.
The man was chased for a few kilometres before running a red light and smashing into another car, they said.
The woman driving the second car was taken to Liverpool Hospital for scans and the man to the same hospital with a suspected broken ankle.
He is expected to be charged with traffic offences when released.
