Stories from readers about surprise car sightings in WA have continued to roll in over recent weeks, with one of the most fascinating coming from reader Lawrie Anderson.
He wrote to say he had spotted a Mercedes, probably dating from the late 1930s or early 1940s, which he later learnt had a very dark past.
"It was a Saturday morning during the mid-1950s," he wrote.
"Two school mates and I were riding our bikes in Claremont past Jim Harwood's Performance Cars, a second-hand dealership that specialised in sporting cars of various makes.
"Parked outside on the street was a big black open-topped Mercedes-Benz.
"It was immaculate and what impressed me most of all were the large headlights and chrome grille. It was also beautifully upholstered in leather throughout.
"Us lads marvelled at this car and gave it a good looking over before cycling on. I later learnt that the car was one used by the nazi Joachim von Ribbentrop when he was foreign minister in the Third Reich during the Second World War.
"This was the only sighting I had of this vehicle and I have wondered at times over the ensuing years as to where the vehicle went and who, for that matter, owns it now."
It was immaculate and what impressed me most of all were the large headlights and chrome grille.
