Fresh from wowing New York, leading WA fashion designer Ruth Tarvydas will take the Perth Fashion Festival by storm when she takes part in the 14th annual event's signature soiree Giving Back is the New Black on September 25.
The acclaimed designer - who has been in the Big Apple showing her Masterpiece Collection - will be one of 16 accomplished and up-and-coming WA labels showing their interpretation of the black dress in a show which will close the festival.
Designers taking part in the swanky event at Government House ballroom include Wheels & Dollbaby, Poppy Lissiman, Zhivago, Morrison, One Fell Swoop, Ae'lkemi and Ellery.
The dresses will be auctioned later to raise money for Ready to Work, a charity which supports disadvantaged, disabled and long-term unemployed women to enter the workforce. The public will have a chance to see each of the designs, which will be on display at the Claremont Quarter from September 26 until October 14.
Tarvydas spent many hours creating her design The Inner Waltz in the lead-up to her trip to the US, where she launched Open 4 Sale, a new retail initiative which uses video consultation.
Using European fabric, Tarvydas - whose clothes have been worn by celebrities including Emma Watson and Rihanna - said the gown was created using a lot of handwork and draping. "I picked up this fabric that really intrigued me," she said. "It's like a stretchy lace covered with clear sequinning."
