Netting a great partner is no easy feat, but a new dating concept promises to bring people together in a fun, sporty setting - minus the typical dating pressure.

Fit2Date, a fitness group launched in Perth last month, invites men and women with a good overall fitness level to join like-minded singles in a team-oriented four-week program.

Founder Erica French said concentrating on exercise and the group activities at hand eliminated the stress of impressing a potential mate, which was often felt in other social settings.

"On a date the usual 20 questions come up, but we don't have any of that because everyone is too focused on training," she said.

Fit2Date participants meet once a week for four weeks, with the first week dividing up the group into teams, the second week into groups of four and the final weeks into pairs.

Ms French said newcomers could expect a combination of cardio, circuit and body-weight exercises, as well as team-based contests.

"I've made it more game-like in a fun, challenging way, and it's definitely not military-style," she said.

Since the company was launched in Sydney in 2007, Ms French said there has been many successful matches, including two Perth instructors who met at a Gold Coast session.

Sharing a hobby or interest with your significant other creates a great foundation for a relationship, according to Mt Lawley Counselling Centre psychologist Leonie Sinclair.

"It's really important for people to have something to share in a relationship, rather than just love," she said.

"I see a lot of women who want a partner but don't want to go to pubs, and don't know where else to go," she said.
