It has been a big year for leading Perth fashion designer Betty Tran.
Not only did she travel to New York to showcase her collection during fashion week, Tran also impressed prestigious US Vogue magazine with her designs and also dressed international superstar Mel B while she was in town for the 2012 Perth Fashion Festival.
Now, at a time when many independent fashion retailers are leaving the Perth CBD, Tran is bucking the trend and preparing to officially open her first store in the heart of the city.
For Tran, the decision to open a flagship store in the new high- end retail precinct at *Raine Square *despite a tough retail climate was as simple as following her heart.
"I always follow my instincts and always follow my gut feeling," she told AAA.
"The best thing I have done at this stage of my life is to follow my heart and take the risk with Betty Tran. It allowed me to tell my story better through the store, the branding and merchandising."
Tran made Perth home at age 18 following a three-year stint in Sydney and childhood in Vietnam.
The fashion industry was a natural fit for the hardworking businesswoman, who grew up watching her mother create "impeccable" clothing over a 30-year career as a tailor.
Today, Tran's five-year plan includes as much business development as it does mentoring and inspiring upcoming designers to chase their dreams.
Through her label, she hopes to given women the confidence to push through the challenges in life and achieve their goals.
"To dress for success is literally the slogan of the brand," she said. "Betty Tran is about power dressing and making a statement about your individuality."
The Betty Tran official store launch will be held onNovember 2.
