Garth Cook managed to present one of the strongest collections of the week so far at last night's Designer Capsule 2.
He showed as part of a group that also included eveningwear designer Steph Audino and new name Kim Barton, but it was Cook who closed the show in style, with members of the audience giving him a standing ovation as he walked down the runway with his models at the end of the parade.
Garth Cook has been designing for quite a few years now, so in comparison to a lot of the designers we've seen on the runway over the past couple of days, he has some experience under his belt.
He's shown at Australian Fashion Week in Sydney and already has a strong following here in WA.
You could see that experience translate through the garments, which were beautifully designed and constructed.
Cook showed three different ranges – his summer 12/13 collection, his resort collection, and his never-seen-before winter 2013 collection, Transformer, which was the absolute highlight of the night.
I was coveting the metallic-thread knitwear – deep-green jumper-dresses and sparkly blue tops – and dresses and skirts made in grey wool, with velvet panels and semi-sheer splices cut into the side of the garment.
These outfits were sporty, sexy, and very cleverly thought out.
Cook also managed to do something that a lot of designers last night didn't – make his models look comfortable. They wore cute high-top sneakers and embellished baseball caps, adding to the sporty vibe.
Cook has a way with a digital print - his draped resort dresses are very wearable – and he also experimented with futuristic metallic gold and bronze party dresses with complex folds and drapes – almost like origami in dress form.
Tonight Breathless, Empire Rose and Nikki Loueza will show their new collections as part of Designer Capsule 3 at Fashion Paramount.
