It has been responsible for finding supermodels Gemma Ward and Nicole Trunfio, so it should come as no surprise that the Perth Fashion Festival has raised the stakes with its annual model search.
PPF organisers announced at this week's launch that it had partnered with one of Australia's leading modelling agencies, Chic Management, for the renamed Chic Model Search 2012.
"WA has become a breeding ground and a resource for most of the top modelling agencies. They come here and find great girls," PFF founder and director Mariella Harvey-Hanrahan told AAA.
By partnering with Chic, the only fashion event in the country to do so, Harvey-Hanrahan said it allowed the model who won a real chance of making it internationally.
"It takes the search up to another level," she said.
"She will be guaranteed a trip to Sydney to shoot her look book and do a test and then she will be going to New York or Paris depending on her look."
It isn't just the annual modelling search where future supermodels have been involved with PFF. Over the years, along with Ward and Trunfio, high-profile beauties to strut down the local runways have included Jessica Gomes, Dempsey Stewart, Emma Booth, Sonya Kukainis and Amy Finlayson.
Another local model making waves is 17-year-old Sarah Tilleke, who was named Hot New Talent at this year's WA Fashion Awards.
This will be Tilleke's second year walking in PFF and she said she was glad to be involved as she was finishing Year 12 and was eyeing a national or international modelling career next year.
"I am in school at the moment but after that I will be heading to Sydney to try my luck," Tilleke said.
