Rotto gets slice of pizza action

A restaurant is to open at the Rottnest Lodge this month, promising to ultimately deliver wood-fired pizzas anywhere on the island - including to boats moored offshore.

RIVA will operate under the direction of Luciano Ottaviano, the former co-owner of popular Claremont restaurant Pronto.

The lease for the Rottnest Lodge was bought recently by the Karma Royal Group, with chairman John Spence promising major upgrades to the property and its services.

Mr Spence said yesterday that the new restaurant would offer an Italian-inspired menu and a wine list featuring many WA labels. Some of the dishes on offer will include Gamberi Piccanti (prawns sauteed in chilli, garlic and white wine), Scottadito D'agnello (grilled lamb chops on Mediterranean vegetables) and Piselli con pancetta (peas, pancetta, onion, garlic and white wine).

Mr Spence said the restaurant would also run a wood-fired pizza oven in its courtyard.

"As a fun and sexy innovation, people staying on their boats or elsewhere on the island can phone in their pizza delivery order and, fresh out of the oven via pedal or paddle-assisted delivery, their pizza will arrive," he said.
