There was a strong WA presence at the David Jones 2013 autumn-winter launch at the department store's flagship Sydney shop last night, with a bevy of Perth's hottest and up-and-coming beauties taking to the catwalk to unveil the latest collections.
While there was no question supermodel Miranda Kerr stole the opening of the runway show in a gold Ellery frock, leading the pack of Perth-raised models was Sports Illustrated bombshell Jessica Gomes, who stood out in a glittery, one-shouldered dress by Rachel Gilbert, which hugged her voluptuous curves in all the right places.
Also making a return to the DJs runway this year was Rossmoyne-raised Rose Smith, who has enjoyed a successful and busy year since moving to New York.
Smith was approached to be the face of Perth Fashion Festival last year but was unable to attend due to her appearance in a string of European fashion shows.
But she told AAA that she hoped her schedule this year would allow her to return to WA to take part in the popular local fashion event, which will be celebrating its 15th anniversary.
"Hopefully I can," she said. "It would be amazing if that could all align because I'd love to front the fashion festival in the town that I'm from."
Other WA faces joining Gomes and Smith in the parade included Amy Finlayson — who this year makes her film debut having featured as an extra alongside fellow WA export Gemma Ward in Baz Luhrmann's highly anticipated The Great Gatsby — Caitlin Lomax, Courtney James and Vivien's Britt Nicholas.
Big-name stars also turned out.
But it was Perth-raised supermodel and DJs ambassador Megan Gale's head-turning arrival that sent the media into a frenzy.
Rocking an extremely fitted leather Lisa Ho number, Gale said she was "so proud" to see her fellow WA models parading on the catwalk.
"I love seeing new models climbing the ranks and doing well," she said. "Especially when I see the WA girls, I feel so proud."
Perth-raised designer Kym Ellery was brimming with pride as she watched her collection shimmy down the DJs catwalk for the first time.
It came just months after her controversial defection from Myer.
"It's fantastic to see Miranda in our new fall collection," she said. "It's in stores now, which is even more exciting."
The designer was unsure when she would be returning to Perth, though she flew over at Christmas with her partner, Luke Stedman, to visit family.
"I love coming back to Perth, especially love getting down to Yallingup," she said.
Though a newly married Rachael Finch — decked out in Kirrily Johnson — walked the red carpet solo, the former Miss Universe Australia beauty, who hosts Seven's The Great Outdoors, was all smiles as she chatted to AAA about her love life.
She is married to her former Dancing with the Stars partner, Michael Miziner.
"Married life is no different really," she giggled."But it's awesome. It was just really beautiful to make that commitment to one another."
