So you've made the decision to put yourself out into the fast-growing world of online dating. The next step is to create an amazing profile for yourself.
You want to make yourself appear as gorgeous and interesting as possible but don't even consider lying, Counselling South psychologist Eliza Hatton says.
"Do not try to 'sell yourself', because you want to find someone who will love you just the way you are," Ms Hatton says.
Think about what you want in a partner beforehand, she says. If you go in unsure, you will get a mixed bag of people who may not be what you are really looking for.
And don't fall into the trap of simply going for the most attractive guy or girl. Read the profiles and be realistic about if the individual truly does tick the boxes for your needs and wants.
The route to finding love will be much easier if you avoid withholding any information and outline your expectations upfront, according to RSVP spokeswoman Melanie Dudgeon.
"Be honest about yourself and who you're looking for because that will enable you to find people quicker who fit your expectations," she says. "If there's something that's a deal- breaker for you, it's best to spell it out up-front rather than get to a date and realise that it actually will be a problem for both of you."
When putting a profile together, keep in mind what the opposite sex considers most important. Ms Dudgeon says for men, the three most important factors are a woman's photo, her age and personality. For women, personality is ranked first, followed by the photos and age.Have a good think about how you want to look and come across to others in the dating world, she says. This means making sure you are comfortable that your photos and descriptions represent you. Partying pictures or shirtless six-pack shots are fine, as long as they match who you really are.
