Barnett wary of underage alcohol laws

Laws to ban adults from giving alcohol to other people's children are in serious doubt after Premier Colin Barnett yesterday labelled the so-called secondary supply laws "nigh on impossible to administer".

The passage of the laws as part of the reform to WA's liquor licensing framework were considered a formality by many after a long-awaited review of the Act recommended them last month.

But Mr Barnett gave a strong indication they lacked his support. "Public behaviour does change," he said. "It's changed on littering, it's changed on smoking, so let's set about changing public attitudes to the supply of liquor to juniors.

"To actually have a law to enforce it, I think would be very, very difficult to enforce."

He said he was not ruling the laws in or out but wanted the review to run its course.
