Scalped tickets for the Rolling Stones' Perth show are shaping as some of the most expensive the city has seen, with dozens advertised for as much as $2000 to $3700 each.
One ambitious online scalper has advertised four tickets in Perth Arena's upper tier, initially sold for $200.95, for $9000 apiece.
Pre-sale tickets for the March show sold out in minutes on Monday and soon popped up on websites such as viagogo, eBay and Gumtree at inflated prices. Some fans registered their disgust with scalpers' prices online.
"Because of dirty scalpers I wasn't able to buy tix," wrote one fan on Gumtree who wanted to buy two premium tickets - initially on sale for $580.45 - for $2000.
By comparison the most expensive tickets _The West Australian _ could find for Bruce Springsteen's much-anticipated Perth concerts were for $550.
_The West's _ music editor Simon Collins said the Stones pre- sale had caused unprecedented traffic on the promoter's website.
"The mark-ups for scalped tickets in part reflect that demand but also the speculative nature of scalping," Collins said.
"The prices will start high and drop if the tickets don't sell.
"Some people are just having a laugh but there is a fool born every minute, so maybe that seller asking for $9000 will get his payday."
Scalping is not illegal in WA but on-selling tickets for profit can breach terms and conditions. However, Consumer Protection director of retail and services David Hillyard said logistically it was difficult for promoters to cancel tickets.
Commerce Minister Michael Mischin said there were no plans to introduce anti-scalping laws in WA after a 2010 review concluded the cost of regulation would outweigh the benefits and probably drive up prices.
"The introduction of such restrictions would also make it harder for genuine individuals to on-sell tickets to an event they cannot attend," Mr Mischin said.
Viagogo's head of Asia Pacific, Alex Levenson, said prices on viagogo were determined by supply and demand and meant "fans no longer need to miss out on tickets to their favourite events".
"All tickets on viagogo are listed by sellers, who also set the prices," he said.
More tickets to the Rolling Stones show go on sale to the general public on Monday.
