UPDATE: A fire that had threatened homes in Hammond Park this afternoon is now under control.
The fire burning in bushland between Frankland and Woodrow avenues, Atkins Parade and Barfield Road has been contained.
Thirty career and volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and Bush Fire Service firefighters tackled the fire and water-bombing helicopters were sent to help ground crews.
Firefighters protected houses in Atkins Parade and are working to extinguish the fire.
The Department of Fire and Emergency Services said this evening that there was no threat to lives or homes but there was still a lot of smoke in the area.
"Although there is no immediate danger you need to be aware and keep up to date in case the situation changes," a DFES spokesperson said.
A bushfire advice is in place for the southern part of Hammond Park in the City of Cockburn.
The fire was reported at 2.40pm.
Roads have been reopened but motorists are urged to avoid the area and be aware of fire and other emergency services personnel working on site.
