The Fremantle Dockers ambitious plan to house its new training and administration facility in a proposed $114 million aquatic and leisure centre at Cockburn has jumped a significant hurdle.
The Federal Government announced yesterday it would honour the previous Labor government's pledge of $10 million to the City of Cockburn for the proposed development.
Finishing the facility on schedule - in 2016 - is now likely to depend on whether the council and the Dockers can get approval for $17 million in State Government funding for the project in the 2014-15 State Budget.
Federal Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Warren Truss yesterday confirmed funding for $342 million in projects nationally.
Cockburn mayor Logan Howlett said he had always been confident of funding.
"We are waiting for any more information now that we need to provide or work that we need to do to get the sign off and the money into our bank account," he said.
"We had been working with the previous government and the opposition in the months before the September election shoring up our proposal and the benefits it provided to the community and we had very positive responses from both."
