The State Government is fighting fire with Fyfe.
Fremantle's Nat Fyfe has joined Victoria Cross recipient Ben Roberts-Smith in the Government's Are You Ready campaign to get WA residents prepared for bushfire season.
Fyfe has volunteer firefighting experience after growing up in Lake Grace where his father David runs a transport company. Fyfe spent part of his summer break driving trucks for his father during harvest and echoed the message sent by Mr Roberts-Smith that fighting fires was everyone's responsibility.
"I have worked on farms for many years especially at this time of year in the harvest period," he said. "There is a high volume of traffic going in and out of paddocks, harvesters working constantly, tractors working constantly.
"Fighting fires in regional areas is everyone's responsibility. All farmers have their firefighting units on hand and any time I work on a new property the farmer makes sure that I am aware how to use the equipment, that the water tank is full and there is petrol available for the motor."
Fyfe said it was hard for many city people to comprehend the damage that a bushfire could cause.
Emergency Services Minister Joe Francis said the Government was gearing up for a "very challenging bushfire season".
