As WA designer Aurelio Costarella celebrates three decades in the business with a grand retrospective exhibition next month, he is also planning to take on the world with a push into China and a show in the world's fashion capital.
Costarella, 49, has survived crippling blows during his career, including the collapse of his business in 1997 and the global financial crisis.
In a sign things are looking bright for the label, Costarella is planning to become only the fourth Australian designer to take on Paris Fashion Week.
"I met with a lot of people while I was in New York a couple of weeks ago and everybody is advising me to just go straight to Paris," he said.
"I now have to get my head around showing in Paris instead, which is a great problem to have."
He is also tapping into the Chinese market. "There are markets we're targeting strongly and 60 per cent of global luxury consumption is Chinese - Australia makes up one per cent, so it's a no-brainer," Costarella said.
