Perth pop princess Samantha Jade will be in the mood to party this weekend when she returns home for Telethon.
Jade's transformation from reality TV show contestant to fully fledged artist was confirmed yesterday when she was nominated for two ARIA Awards, including Song of the Year for her triple platinum single What You've Done To Me.
"I just can't believe it - I am feeling on top of the world," Jade told AAA from the ARIA Awards nominations event in Sydney yesterday. "I didn't even know I was going to be nominated.
"I just went to support the industry and then, when they called my name out twice, it was very exciting."
It's a long way from when Jade was working at her dad's Guildford warehouse in mid- 2011 after returning to Perth from the US, where she was unable to get a music career off the ground.
She then entered X Factor where she stumbled in the first live shows before gaining her confidence and ultimately becoming the first female winner.
Sydney-based Jade said she was excited to be attending the ARIA Awards on December 1 as a nominee and be recognised for her musical talent.
"It is so nice to be recognised by the Australia recording industry as an artist. It is overwhelming," she said.
"Last year I attended the ARIA Awards as the winner of The X Factor and I had just come off the show and it was such a whirlwind.
"But this year to be nominated for something is such a different feeling."
Local fans can come out and congratulate her personally when she performs at Harbour Town shopping centre at 1pm on Sunday as part of WA's biggest annual charity event.
"I love performing anywhere but there is something special about Perth. People get behind me in a different way when I am home," she said, "Anyone from Perth knows that Telethon is such a big deal - it is one of the biggest things WA has.
"It was the one time I could stay up all night as a kid and eat lollies. I have such great memories of Telethon."
After her weekend in Perth, Jade will head back to Sydney where she will shoot the video clip for her new single.
"We are making the video next week," she said. "The single is a few weeks away in terms of being out but it is done and the video is all ready to be shot. I really like this one - I think it's my favourite."
As for who she is backing to take out this year's X Factor, Jade has her money on Taylor Henderson.
"I think Taylor is great. I can see Taylor making albums I would buy," she said.
"He is a songwriting who plays the guitar and also is a great performer, I think he is my fave."
