Perth heavyweight Soa Palelei will fight heavy hitter Pat Barry in front of a home crowd at a UFC card in Brisbane later this year.
Palelei (19-3) and Barry (8-6) have verbally agreed to clash at UFC Fight Night 33 on December 7, the UFC confirmed today.
Palelei returned to the UFC two weeks ago after a six-year hiatus, earning a gritty TKO win over young Ukrainian Nikita Krylov (15-3) in Milwaukee.
The 36-year-old went into the Krylov fight with a fractured rib and he'll be looking to put on a more exciting performance at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
Barry, a former professional kickboxer, is coming off a first-round loss to former college football champion Shawn Jordan (15-4) in June.
The 34-year-old New Orleans native is a stocky, powerful veteran and a dangerous striker.
Palelei is no slouch standing but his best bet will be to take Barry down and finish the fight with a submission or punches.
It is the third bout added to the Brisbane card, after the announcement of two huge headliners.
In the main event, fan favourite Mark Hunt (9-8) will take on Brazilian behemoth Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva (18-5) in a five-round heavyweight bout, while in the co-main, New Zealand-born James Te Huna (16-6) meets former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (21-8).
