Trainer Shane Edwards has been disqualified by stewards after failing to appear at an inquiry into his export of horses to Singapore today.
Edwards told stewards at 9.20pm on Tuesday night that he would not attend the resumption of the inquiry because of personal reasons that had arisen at short notice.
Racing and Wagering WA stewards proceeded to disqualify him under Australian Rule of Racing 175f for failing to appear.
RWWA general manager of integrity Denis Boravica said stewards will ask the Malayan Racing Association to reciprocate the ban.
Malaysian stewards did not reciprocate the suspension of Edwards’ Australian trainers’ license before the start of the inquiry.
Edwards moved to Malaysia to train gallopers last year.
Furious owners lashed out at Edwards at the first two hearings of the inquiry last month over his handling of their horses that were moved to Singapore between 2008 and 2011.
