Perth's fashion set will get a chance to see what the fuss is all about when WA Fashion Award winners One Fell Swoop open the 2012 Perth Fashion Festival at Perth Town Hall tonight.
For those familiar with the label, designed by Daniel Romanin and Nikolina Ergic, taking out opening honours at PFF is a timely validation of their talent.
For those less familiar with One Fell Swoop, which launched in 2005, it is the perfect opportunity to discover why there is such a buzz building around this emerging label.
The collection - called An Illusive Tribe - will feature 40 outfits and a mix of spring/summer and autumn/winter outfits.
Romanin described the collection as trans-seasonal, meaning that pieces could be taken off or layered over one another depending on the climate, but could essentially be worn year-round.
While the label's summer garments are softly draped and light in colour, Romanin described the winter pieces as "powerful, darker, and more seductive".
The designers have collaborated with musician Jean-Michel Jarre, one of this year's festival ambassadors, on a soundtrack to accompany the parade and local model Sheridan Savage will appear in a film specially made for the event.
Tonight's launch looks set to be an elegant starting point for a week of parades, fashion soirees, exhibitions and street activity.
Tomorrow night popular WA label Morrison will open proceedings at the official Fashion Paramount venue, Hackett Hall at the WA Museum. This is the second time that the museum has been chosen to host the week's activities.
Other highlights include the WA Designer Collections group show on Friday night, a solo parade by Ae'lkemi on Sunday night and a 1920s-themed dinner on Monday hosted by Flannel designer Kristy Lawrence.
The 2012 Perth Fashion Festival will close with a special event, Giving Back Is the New Black.
For the event, designers including Ruth Tarvydas, Kym Ellery and Wheels & Dollbaby will contribute one-off little black dresses for auction.
The proceeds will go to Ready to Work, a charity that helps disadvantaged, disabled and long-term unemployed women find jobs. With the WA Designer Collections, Myer Fashion Luncheon and Morrison shows already sold out - and with record numbers of fashion journalists, bloggers and photo- graphers requesting media access - it seems interest in the Perth Fashion Festival is at an all-time high.
