The passion of Fremantle fans was on full display at Patersons Stadium this afternoon as more than 3000 turned up to welcome home their heroes.
Many said they had come to show their support and say thanks to the team for an amazing season, which has been the club's most successful since entering the AFL competition 19 years ago.
Fremantle were unable to claim the coveted AFL premiership yesterday, losing to Hawthorn by 15 points at the MCG.
Players were introduced one-by-one to loud cheers from the crowd.
Skipper Matthew Pavlich thanked the crowd for their support and sounded a note of caution when he said it would take a huge effort to get back into the grand final next year but he had full faith in the club's ability to do so.
Coach Ross Lyon said the team was humbled by the fans show of support and that he had never experienced such support before. He said it was the beginning of a journey for the club and its fans.
"Stick with us, stay passionate - we will come again," he said.
A bigger crowd was expected but a forecast for rain is likely to have kept many away.
Many proud supporters in the crowd insisted Fremantle would be an even stronger side next year and were a sure thing to take out the 2014 premiership.
Earlier this afternoon, a small but vocal group of supporters gathered at Perth Airport to welcome the Dockers on their return flight from Melbourne.Pain was etched on the faces of the players and coaching staff but all were appreciative of the supporters' attendance.
