It's the news Anchorman fans have been waiting for.
The sequel to the 2004 Will Ferrell comedy has been given a release date with Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues due to hit the big screen on December 20 next year.
Director Adam McKay broke the news via Twitter yesterday: "It's official. Anchorman 2 has a release date: December 20, 2013. Very excited."
And it didn't take long for Judd Apatow to share his excitement, with the producer tweeting: "One year from tomorrow Anchorman 2 will be in theatres!! It is kind of a big deal."
The first Anchorman featured chauvinist newsman Ron Burgundy (Ferrell) trying to come to terms with having to share the desk with a female co-anchor Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate).
The sequel will reportedly centre on how Burgundy and his Channel 4 News Team handle the evolution of news coverage.
It will reunite the original Channel 4 News Team of Ferrell, Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and David Koechner while it has been reported Kristen Wiig could also join the cast as the love interest of Carell's Brick Tamland.
McKay, who worked on the first film with Apatow, told The Playlist the film would include "whole song sequences" performed live on set.
The first Anchorman film features the famously funny scene of the team performing a rendition of Afternoon Delight.
"We always do it live on the set," McKay told The Playlist.
"And my thing is, if the actors get freaked out, don't sweat it, we can always re-record it later."
