Basil Zempilas quits 92.9

After six years at the helm of 92.9's breakfast show, Basil Zempilas has officially quit the Subiaco-based station this morning amid mounting speculation he is heading to 6PR.

Tomorrow, the prominent local media identity will broadcast his last show on 92.9 alongside his current co-hosts Lisa Fernandez and Paul Hogan, who are also leaving the station.

"It means we can all say goodbye together," Zempilas told thewest.com.au.

"I started at the station alongside Em (Rusciano) and Sam Mac and now I am finishing up with Lisa and Paul.

"It has been a terrific six years, during which I got engaged and married to Amy and had my two children Ava and more recently Chloe."

Zempilas has not commented on the rumours he is moving to 6PR, which is undergoing a big overhaul, to join Steve "Millsy" Mills on its breakfast show as reported this week.

He did say however that 92.9 general manager Linda Wayman, who he described as a great boss, friend and role model, did try her best to keep him on at the station and that he was preparing to “tackle the next chapter” of his radio career.

"I am staying in radio but now isn't the right time for that announcement," he said on air this morning while breaking the news.

“I'm also very excited about the opportunities which lay ahead and it's because of my time at 92.9 I tackle the next chapter of my radio career with such confidence."

Zempilas, 42, was actually a co-host of 6PR's breakfast show ten years ago.

Whatever Zempilas decides to do in the future, his commitments at Channel 7 will keep him busy over the summer, especially with flying over to Melbourne to cover the Australian Open.
