Three-time Olympic gold medalist Stephanie Rice is set to try her hand at TV presenting, with the Nine Network today announcing that the champion swimmer is joining its Today breakfast team.

Since finding success at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Rice has become one of the most recognised faces on Australia's sporting scene.

In her role with Today, Rice will present in-studio segments and reports on her love of health, fitness and cooking.

"It's not every day you have a multiple Olympic gold medalist join your team. And I don't think the early mornings will be a problem for her after years in the pool," Today executive producer Neil Breen said.

Rice, who has hinted in recent months that she was considering giving up the sport, has already tweeted her excitement about her new venture: "So excited to announce that I'm apart of @thetodayshow family. Can't wait to share my tips on health and fit."
