Newton to undergo quadruple bypass

Australian television legend Bert Newton will undergo quadruple bypass heart surgery in Melbourne.

Mr Newton is at Melbourne’s Epworth hospital, where he will undergo the five-and-a-half hour surgery at 6am (AEDT) on Saturday, the Nine Network said.

“I couldn’t say I’m scared (but) apprehensive,” he told Nine on Friday.

Mr Newton’s family is by his bedside in a private hospital room and is in good spirits.

“Things like this, it does depend on attitude,” he said.

“I think I have a good attitude and a very positive attitude, which is important.

“I got a family that I want to be with for a long time.”
