Johnny Ruffo is pumped to be back in his home town this weekend to support WA's annual children's fundraiser, Telethon.
It is the first time the former Balcatta Senior High School student will join Seven's star-studded celebrity line-up since finding fame on the network's smash-hit singing show The X Factor last year.
Despite already having to juggle a hectic schedule which regularly sees him rush between The X Factor set, the recording studio and various locations to film for the soapie series Home and Away, the singer turned actor was more than happy to find time for the charity event.
"I couldn't make it (last year) because of my schedule but this is the first time that I'll be involved in this capacity, I can't wait to get on the panel," Ruffo told AAA yesterday.
"I'm going to do a hospital visit, I'll get on the panel, I'll be performing at the opening and closing ceremony and in between, I'll be in the phone rooms. I'll be doing absolutely everything; it's going to be so much fun."
Like many West Australians who have grown up watching Telethon unfold on the small screen, the annual fundraiser is something Ruffo holds close to his heart.
"To me, it's a culture, and Perth really comes together for Telethon," he said. "It doesn't happen anywhere else around the country, it's such a big event here. We raise millions of dollars every year for Princess Margaret, which is fantastic, and for me this year it will mean a whole lot more because I'll be involved.
"I'm going to use my public profile in a good way to help the kids out, to help raise more money and I think it's going to be a fantastic experience."
When asked whether he was dating fellow Home and Away actress Samara Weaving, Ruffo insisted it was just a rumour.
"They are all rumours," he laughed. "When that came out, I'd only spoken to her literally twice. We're just good friends, we're on set together all the time so obviously we chat lots and have a laugh."
Though he hoped to have his album out by the end of the year, Ruffo said due to his filming commitments with Home and Away it will more than likely hit shelves early next year.Telethon kicks off today at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. Coverage starts at 6.30pm on Seven/GWN7.
