Mullets' ball call a uteload of fun
Fans of authentic earthy Ocker culture will be able to channel their inner Gazza or Shazza at a special Fringe World show to mark Australia Day.
The Bogan Bingo audience participation comedy night, a regular fixture at Rosie O'Grady's, will hold its Oz Day Eve show at the Northbridge pub tonight.
Bogan Bingo started in Melbourne seven years ago and has spread to Britain, where it has proved to be a big hit with Aussie expats in London.
WA had had the biggest boom in popularity of all the States, local producer Bonnie Davies said.
Bogans existed all over the world under different names but Australia was the only country to celebrate the culture, Davies said.
"There is a little bit of bogan in everyone," she said.
Comedian Ethan Marrell helps lead the audience in donning mullet wigs, flannel shirts and torn jeans for a night of jokes, air-guitar competitions and bingo.
Yelling out "legs 11" for No. 11 or "one little duck" for No. 2 was a perfect way to celebrate being Australian, he said.
"Bingo is a very exciting, thrilling game and Australians love exciting games and extreme sport," he said."
"We are an athletic country, so something like bingo in which you strenuously work the body and work the mind is a perfect game for Australia Day."
Bogan Bingo, whose regular fringe season runs from January 30 to February 23, appealed to people from all walks of life, Marrell said.
"There are a lot of stealth bogans out there who have the gene but don't know it yet," he said. "We hold the show in an early timeslot because we turn ugly after midnight."
