Like a resplendent bird of paradise, Carol Furtado spreads her wings and flies across the stage in a swirl of colour as the star of Merchants of Bollywood.
The international touring show, featuring a cast of 30 and a wardrobe of 2000 costumes, brings to the Regal Theatre the flamboyant colour, energy and melodrama of Bollywood in telling the story of the Merchant entertainment dynasty.
Furtado, a dancer from India's Portuguese enclave of Goa, appears as Ayesha, whose dreams of Bollywood fame clash with her traditional family duties. "It is a splendid colourful production and that is what India stands for," Furtado said.
Merchants of Bollywood runs at the Regal Theatre until November 1.
