It may seem counterintuitive to read a book on slow reading in order to help you read more efficiently.
But that's exactly what you stand to gain by (slowly) reading Houston University English professor Mikics' wise, common-sense guide to getting the most out of real reading - totally immersive reading.
Mikics identifies the problem (distraction); offers an answer (concentration); provides some ground rules (e.g. "Be Patient", "Find the Author's Basic Thought"); and then shows you how to apply all this to different genres (short stories, novels, poetry, plays, essays).
I can't recommend this book highly enough.
