REVIEW: Louis Theroux: Extreme Love - Dementia

TODAY, 8.30PM, ABC2

In this documentary, acclaimed British broadcaster Louis Theroux sets out to take a snapshot of the debilitating syndrome of dementia but rather than telling the tale through the eyes of the sufferers, he instead illustrates the effects through the people who love them. There's a 49-year-old mother with early-onset dementia whose husband must decide how her future will unfold, then there's 89-year-old Nancy who still has plenty of spark despite her almost constant state of confusion. The show is, at times, heartbreaking and tear-jerking but, at others, you will find yourself laughing aloud and feeling hopeful for the characters living with, and around, the condition.
