Modern crime dramas lead us to believe that forensic crime labs are close to infallible when it comes to tracking down criminals.

The reality is much grimmer, according to this US documentary.

With few established scientific standards and poor regulation of examiners, the analysis of everything from fingerprints to ballistics can be more of an art than a science.

Using re-creations and footage of actual cases, it investigates how mishandled and misinterpreted forensic evidence is sending innocent people to jail and letting criminals walk free.
