Viewers have shown their love for good locally-produced shows after the US hit Homeland bombed when it returned for a second season on Sunday night.
Homeland went head-to-head with the Nine Network's family drama House Husbands and the ABC's telemovie Jack Irish, a two-part production based on Australian novels of the same name.
Network Ten had even fast-tracked the Emmy-award-winning Homeland for Australia just 12 days after its US screening to overcome download pirates - but it still only managed to attract 633,000 viewers on Sunday night to be 14th.
Meanwhile more than a million viewers tuned in to House Husbands (1.040 million), which was the fifth most-watched show and Jack Irish, starring Guy Pearce, was sixth with an audience of 950,000.
The Seven Network's current affairs program Sunday Night won the evening with 1.354 million viewers followed by Nine's 60 Minutes (1.341 million).
The second part of comedian Ahn Do's, Ahn Does Vietnam (1.317 million) was third, while Seven News (1.206 million) was fourth and Nine News (942,000) was sixth.
With housemate Josh Moore departing from Big Brother after the sudden death of his brother during the week, there was no eviction on Sunday night. Instead Moore returned to say goodbye - and 863,000 viewers tuned in, lifting Big Brother into eighth spot.
Ten was given some respite with Bones (853,000) at ninth spot and Modern Family with 850,000 viewers at 10th.
However, the debut of its series The New Normal, about two gay men wanting to raise a child via a surrogate mum, flopped. It was 16th with 488,000 viewers.
